HER STORY: SABRINA HARRISON
her |həː, hə| pronoun 1 used as the object of a verb or preposition to refer to a female person : Her heart was the most beautiful thing about her.
We had such an incredible time last night as we heard from the heart of our EBF Founder, Sabrina Harrison!
Equipped by Faith Ministries was founded in 2014 when Sabrina felt a calling from God to bridge the gap between the church and the marketplace. It was her desire to create a space where women of all cultures, backgrounds, and denominations could come together to experience community through real stories of triumph, victory, and encouragement.
Having no idea where to start, she invited a few of her closest girlfriends to join her for a Bible study, meeting together monthly in the living room of her home.
Since then, Equipped by Faith has grown into a community of faith-filled women who are seeking God with all of their hearts, on a mission to fulfill their God-given purpose and destiny here on the earth.
"My dream for this ministry is to help as many women as possible achieve the dreams and visions that God has placed inside of them. I have learned the value, power, and freedom that comes when women authentically and openly share their hopes, dreams, disappointments, and struggles.” - Sabrina Harrison
And if you've attended an EBF gathering, you know that is exactly what it has become. Read below, to hear more of Sabrina’s heart, vision, and passion for God and others.
Q&A with Sabrina Harrison
1. What do you think you were put on this earth for? What is your biggest dream?
To know God, love Him, love others, and spend my days growing Heaven on earth.
2. What are some of the obstacles you have had to go through to get to this point?
All of my life has been a decision to rise above my circumstances and trust God. A decision day in and day out to let go and let God and to live by FAITH. Rise above bad news, negative people, failures, unequally yoked relationships, poor planning, disappointments, and other people’s opinions. I am not ashamed of what I’ve been through. It proves that God was with me.
3. What motivates or inspires you?
I’m inspired and challenged when I read or listen to stories of women of faith, women who truly trust God’s love and provision, who have let go and let God. Other people’s testimonies. The Word of God. Knowing who God is and not only what He can do for me.
4. What do you want to be remembered for?
By being a doer of this… Matthew 22:37-39 “Jesus replied, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
5. What advice would you give other women searching for their purpose, passion, & faith?
God can be trusted to keep His promises. Find out what those promises are. There are over 5,000 promises in the Bible. Every promise is irrevocable. They are not able to be changed, reversed; they are final. Jesus’ name is above every other name. Knowing God and His Word is the only way to overcome.
“You shall overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of your testimony; do not love your lives so much as to shrink from death.” Revelation 12:11
Allow God to be your hope and your strength. Admit your helplessness to God. God’s spirit within you is mighty. Activate that power. Confess any unbelief, sin, self-reliance, and submit to His Spirit. Trust God and wait on Him to change you from the inside out. It’s a process. When your miracle happens, give God glory. Does He have YOU after He answered your prayer? Know who you are and whose you are.
Choosing humility, fasting, reading the Word of God, persevering, and commanding your own authority. These are things that will ignite your faith. Read the Bible. All of it. Daily. Pray to understand what you read. Pray that God will give you the desire and that He will help you carve out time for it. Make reading the Word a part of your daily routine. Apply it—obey His laws. “His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.” Psalm 119:105
I believe God places people in positions where they’re desperate for His power, and then He shows His provision in ways that display His greatness. God is bigger than your problems, bigger than your fear, His love is greater than all the hate in the world. His Word says, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” This doesn’t mean that living a Christian life is easy, but pursuing a relationship with God is because He pursues us first.
Your level of busy, your career, and your relationships are not what give you value. Knowing who you are as a loved woman of God is vital to keeping your identity rooted in Christ and not in the pursuit of your calling. Never forget that God’s discipline proves His love for us.
6. What has been your greatest achievement in life?
Aside from being a wife and mom, it would have to be the understanding that my relationship with God is more important than what I do for God. Falling love with Jesus. Finding my life in Him.
7. How does what you do reflect what God placed on your heart to share with the world?
I believe we are made to worship God and share Him with others. Those are the greatest commandments…love God and love people. I used to think that I had to be in full-time ministry to be truly effective. I thought I had to compartmentalize my work life and my spiritual life. My work has become my mission field. I can now take church outside the four walls of church, and reach people that may never set foot in a church.
8. What books are you reading?
I’m reading the EBF Bible Reading Plan: the book of Deuteronomy, Power of a Praying Woman by Stormie Omartian, and Radical: Taking Your Faith Back from the American Dream by David Platt.
9. How do you stay encouraged & faith filled?
By staying in the Word, prayer, confessing, not neglecting to meet with other believers regularly, by encouraging others, podcasts, online sermons, staying in church, my daily morning spiritual workout, my quiet time with Him each morning, reading the Bible each morning (my mind is freshest in the morning). These things strengthen my faith in ways nothing else can.
“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Romans 10:17
This gives us knowledge on how faith comes—by taking in God’s Word. And faith is the very essence of receiving the promises that God says we can have.
10. Favorite scripture of the moment (or ever)?
“Jesus replied, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matthew 22:37-39
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not by your own doing; it is the gift of God, not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 (We are saved by GRACE!)
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1
