The Value of Mentorship

mentor |ˈmenˌtôr | noun an experienced and trusted adviser: She knew the impact a mentor could make.

Field and I are honored to be the event Chairs for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Big Black Tie Ball on November 9th at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, TX again this year and we wanted to invite you to join us there!

Our family and business have been supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters for years because we truly believe in the value and importance of mentorship for all people—especially for our children and youth.

And that’s what Big Brothers Big Sisters does best. They’ve been helping kids succeed and thrive in life, right here in our own community, since 1904. As a mom, my heart goes out to anyone who has to walk through this life alone—especially kids. I know the importance of investing in a child’s future and just how important it is for all of us to have someone to look up to, someone to depend on, and someone to challenge and encourage us through the difficulties of life.

Mentorship is very similar to discipleship and Jesus is our greatest example of that. Jesus led by example. He was the greatest mentor and leader because He knew His purpose on earth. He walked in power and authority and taught others to do the same.

"How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, 'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’” Romans 10:14-15 (ESV)

Mentors are so needed in our lives because they can lead us where we have never been and share wisdom we have not yet learned. Mentors teach, lead, inspire, encourage, and offer advice when we need it most. Most importantly—mentors will believe in you, often before you even believe in yourself because they have the ability to see your potential, far before you do.

There is power in speaking purpose and destiny into the life of someone who does not yet see it for themselves. Speaking truth and encouragement into someone’s heart and mind can change the trajectory of their life forever. This is the power of mentorship—and this is why we support Big Brothers Big Sisters.

These children are worth investing in. You are worth investing in. No matter how young or how old you are—I encourage you to find someone to mentor you, someone to look up to, someone who has walked the path you desire to walk yourself.

And I also want to encourage you to join me on this mission of mentorship.

Here are a few ways you can get involved:

  • Purchase individual tickets or tables for the November 9th gala to support children in need and to learn more about the cause.

  • Donate items for the live and silent auction. (You can email your ideas to sabrinaharrison@mintdentistry.com)

  • Ask your church to partner with BBBS as part of their discipleship ministry program!

  • Share the event on your social media pages and stories.

If you would like to join us on the mission of mentorship, please message me and let me know. I would love to have you stand beside us in support of these children. We can make a bigger difference together!

XO-

Sabrina
