1. How are you pursuing your God-given purpose and destiny? And what is one thing you would say to encourage someone who is trying to pursue their God-given purpose today?

I spend time in my Bible and time in prayer to learn more about God. The more I know about Him the closer I can be with Him. I recognize His voice so much easier amongst the noise of this world. He reveals more to me when I can hear Him. His Word tells us, in Jeremiah 29:13, "You will seek me and find me when you seek with all your heart." He has revealed to me that I have the gift of encouragement, so I now get use my skills in makeup to encourage women and allow them to feel loved and valued.

To someone who is trying to pursue their God-given purpose, I would say, never despise your uniqueness or eccentricities. Those are indicators of your God-given purpose. We are all different because God has placed a specific calling on our lives and He reveals Himself and your calling through the details. He is a God who loves the details.

2. What motivates or inspires you?

What motivates and inspires me is when I see my obedience to God reveal the next step. I get really excited when I know I hear God correctly and when I say YES to what He’s asking of me (especially when the action may be a bit “out there” to other people). It’s also so motivating to see gifts and talents in other people being utilized so well. It just reminds me that we each have a unique set of skills that God has placed in us and we are meant to use them to glorify Him.

3. What books or podcasts are you currently reading or listening to that are helping you to continue growing and learning?

Right now, I am reading a book called Becoming a True Spiritual Community. I’m involved in a biblical coaching program throughout the next couple of weeks. This book and the following 2 are our readings for the program:  Facing Messy Stuff in the Church and When Suffering is Redemptive.

I could listen to podcasts from Pastor Judah Smith (Churchhome in Seattle, WA) and Pastor Michael Todd from Transformation Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma all day long.

4. Tell us more about The Makeup Story and how you are using this to make an impact in Market Place Ministry.

I feel so blessed to be able to do what I love for work, which is makeup artistry. I get to do makeup on women while making them feel loved and valued. When a woman allows you to do her makeup, it’s an amazing thing to watch walls come down. Letting someone do your makeup can be a very vulnerable place, but they give me the honor to be that person for them. During their makeup service, you better believe that I use it as a moment to speak life into them! There’s enough negativity in this world and I truly believe God is using me as salt and light in this world to point people to Him.

5. What do you love about Equipped by Faith?

I love that Equipped By Faith is a group of women who can gather under one roof to hear encouragement, to be united, and to hear how good God’s grace is. We get to hear how He has transformed one woman’s life, just like He wants to transform ours.

Currently, Kayla is planning a month-long trip (beginning on August 25, 2018) to Antigua, Guatemala with Shoreline City Church to serve at a local orphanage called Village of Hope, providing mentorship to orphans with special needs. Kayla will be living with a local Guatemalan family and be taking Spanish courses at a local academy in order to communicate better with the children she will be working with.

She is raising money for her trip by teaching makeup lessons! This is a GREAT way for us to get involved in serving the people of Guatemala through Kayla! (While also learning a few makeup tips for ourselves!) If you would like to help Kayla raise funds for this trip, email her at bookings@themakeupstory.com or you can give directly by clicking HERE (just select: Kayla Combs).

Be sure to follow her journey at @the.makeupstory and themakeupstory.com!
